AMAA, that is propelling the African cinema to greater heights, is also setting in motion the task of aligning the industry to the larger industrial sub sector of the continent.
To ensure that the film industry lives on for years AMAA has in 2010 inaugurated the short film Competition for African universities to complement the academy awards and the AFA competition for young filmmakers aged 9-18 years to encourage film making among the younger generation.
AMAA's belief in capacity building has been the reason why AMAA has always supported players in the audiovisual sector to international film festivals like the Berlin, Cannes and Toronto Film Festivals to meet and network with fellow players from the west and garner experience.
Above all else, AMAA is about the well being of individuals who make a film an entire product and thus seeks to promote African designers, Actors, Actresses, Producers and their works internationally while uniting Africa through acts and to Produce a world-class movie awards.
AMAA, the continental award scheme for players in the film sector is getting the rest of Africa involved in the initiative not just by submitting to the annual event but creating awareness among filmmakers around the continent. Founded in 2005, AMAA, an offshoot of the African Film Academy, is geared towards research, training, promoting African cultures, encourage professionalism in the movie industry, offer professional development and networking opportunities.
