Born in Teheran (Iran), 1980.

At the age of 17 she directed her first feature, Sib (The Apple), becoming the youngest female director ever to compete at Cannes. She later directed the films Takhté siah (The Blackboard, 2000) and Panj é asr (At Five in the Afternoon, 2003) both winners of the Jury Prize at Cannes Festival. She also participated with one of the eleven episodes in 11'09"01-September 11 (2002). Two-Legged Horse is her fourth feature.
