Born in Sinza kwa Remmy Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Hon.

Magumba Masegwa Innocent Mihayo (M.M Mihayo) and Mrs Q.

Elizabeth Mihayo on 21st September as Kutengwa Mihayo, after

his paternal grandfather. As a Roman Catholic he was later named

Damian Innocent Mihayo.

While in primary school, he took a great interest in the cultural

programs which were a part of the primary school curriculum

organised by the Ministry of Education, sports and culture.

Damian was heavily inspired by the sound of traditional singing,

poetry and the dynamic tribal influences of the Sindimba drums

from the Makonde, Lizombe from the Ngoni and Mdundiko from

the Zaramo amongst many others.

When in high school, he made the decision to dedicate

himself to music as an active musician, after reading a

book titled "Ruling Your World' by David O. Oyedepo. He

got further encouragement from his entrepreneurship

teacher, sealing his commitment to music, knowing his

father would be disappointed.

Damian has an easy honesty in his subtle tone that has

stopped many people in their tracks while performing.

Many great musicians have said that Damian soul has an

extremely rare vocal talent.

Jimmy Kabwe (Veteran Tanzanian Radio and Tv

Producer/Presenter ): says, "Damian Soul is a

truly gifted musician with a unique voice, a

throwback to the great afro soul/jazz legendary

performers when on stage. He is what Tanzania

has been missing!"
