Established in 1973. Pan-African non-governmental organization. Objectives: to develop the social sciences in Africa by mobilizing the African social scientists to undertake fundamental as well as problem oriented research; to develop scientifically a comparative and a continental perspective expressing the specificity of the development process in Africa; to promote cooperation and collaboration among African universities, research and training institutes as well as professional associations; to promote the publication and the distribution of research results of African researchers; to promote and defend the principle of independent thought and research and the liberty of researchers. Activities: research, publishing activities, documentation, training, grants.
