Une jeune adolescente, Tambudzai, compte vraiment participer à l'élite du peuple rhodésien en accédant au savoir. Elle se fait prendre par son oncle Babamukuru dans l'école de la Mission qu'il dirige. Mais elle tombe amoureuse d'un jeune combattant pour la liberté.
