Genre : Social
Type : Documentary
Original title :
Principal country concerned : Column : Cinema/tv
Year of production : 1992
Format : Mid-length
Running time : 55 (in minutes)

The filmmaker has lovingly and sensually chosen 5 women among the women in Algiers to depict their situation in a country that ignores them. They all want to talk about their beauty, their bodies and love. Whether they're Assia Djebar, a mujahideen journalist who fought for independence, or an anonymous woman in the crowd, they refuse to be pushed aside and demonstrate their willingness to play the part of citizens in today's Algeria. This freedom requires learning French within the family or for others, studies or religion. To conclude, one of the women says: "We have to drop the veil in Algeria".
